What the eight classes cover
Every class runs the same way: a warm-up from standing and from the floor, one piece of material worked slowly with different partners, and an open dance at the end so the material is used rather than noted down.
The material is what the form rests on. Giving and taking weight through the skeleton instead of by gripping. Keeping a single rolling point of contact and following where it travels. Falling, and rolling out of it instead of catching yourself on your hands. Reading momentum rather than watching for it. Declining, pausing and renegotiating inside a dance, which is taught here as technique rather than housekeeping. The last evenings put the pieces together into a small open score you can dance without a plan.
The first evening assumes nothing, and a class later in the series still works if it turns out to be your first one.

What a class costs
Each class is $20 to $50 on a sliding scale. Pay what you can inside that range and nobody will ask where you landed. The lower end covers the room; the upper end is for anyone who can carry more of it and wants the series to keep running.
Subscribers to the monthly email get 20% off any class for the next two months; the code arrives in the first email. Nothing else on this site unlocks a discount.
If $20 is the reason you are not coming this week, say so before the class. One email is enough and it gets sorted. Nobody is turned away from a fundamentals class over money.
Getting there
Inner Motion Dance Studio is at 216 NE 1st Ave, Hallandale Beach, just east of US-1 (Federal Highway) and north of Hallandale Beach Boulevard. From Miami it is the first city past the county line after Aventura; from Fort Lauderdale it is south of Hollywood. If you need parking or access details before you come, email and you will get an answer before Friday.
Who teaches it
Max Petrusenko teaches the series. He also builds and maintains this website, so this page reads as the organiser describing his own class, and the Miami-Dade and Broward jam list carries the same disclosure beside its entry. Every other session on this site is published on the strength of the organiser's own page; this one is published on the strength of this page, and it comes down when the series ends rather than sitting here looking current.
Also on a Friday
The Friday jam this site hosts runs at the same studio from 2 October 2026. Its own page carries the schedule, the door price and how that evening runs. A class is taught and an open jam is not, and most people here end up doing both.
Ground rules
The full protocol is on safety and consent. The short version applies in a class as much as in a jam: keep a single point of contact, keep your own feet available, roll out of a fall instead of bracing with your arms, decline anything you want to decline and take a decline without asking why, and step out of a dance when it ends.
Questions about the series
Do I need a partner or any experience for the Fundamentals series?
No. The series starts at the beginning and assumes no dance background. Most people arrive alone, and every partner exercise is done with whoever is standing next to you.
Do I have to come to all eight classes?
No. Each class stands on its own, so you can drop into any one of the eight. Coming to all of them is what turns the material into dancing, and it is not required.
How much does a class cost?
A sliding scale of $20 to $50 for each class. Pay what you can inside that range, and nobody will ask where you landed.
How do I book?
Registration runs on Luma, and the link goes up on this page as soon as the series is published there. Payment at the door is accepted at every class, so a booking is not what gets you through the door.
Where is it, and how do I get there?
Inner Motion Dance Studio, 216 NE 1st Ave, Hallandale Beach, FL 33009, on the north edge of Miami just past Aventura on US-1.
Who teaches it?
Max Petrusenko, who also maintains this website. That is why this page reads as the organiser describing his own class, and why the entry in the jam list carries the same disclosure.
Is this the same thing as the Friday jam?
No. The jam is open dancing with no teacher and no plan. This is a taught class, and every class ends with an open dance so the material is used straight away.
What should I wear and bring?
Clothes you can roll in, covering your back, shoulders and knees, with no zips, buckles or hard seams. Bare feet or soft socks, a full water bottle and a towel. Rings and watches come off at the edge.
What if $20 is out of reach this week?
Say so before the class. One email is enough, and it gets sorted without a conversation about your circumstances.
Come to the first one, or to any of them.
No booking is needed to pay at the door. If you want to ask something first, one email is enough.
